Meet Our Fantastic Team
Melissa (Salon Owner/Extenstionist)
Melissa opened her salon doors in 2011 in Glasgow’s West End and is known for bringing many ‘firsts’ to Scotland and indeed Glasgow, the most successful being Easilocks: Celebrity Hair Extensions. The Salon is also known for its friendly, down-to-earth approach, good value and top customer service.
So here are some things you may/may not know about Melissa. She started through the Princes Trust, became one of their Young Ambassadors and still today features as one of their successful case studies on their UK website. She was proudly one of the Queens Baton Bearers at the start of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow: the same baton that had been all around the Commonwealth ended up with Melissa as she ran with it on the eve of the Games. She has won and competed in many Beauty Pageants since the age of 18. Now a veteran, her last title was Mrs UK Inspiration in 2016/17, with that fitting title Mel hangs up her sashes to fully concentrate on Macs business. Her multi award-winning salon got her the recognition she deserves and to date, they have 5 titles under their belts, 2 of which were her own as Hair Extensionist of the Year. This caught the eye of Easilocks when they invited her to be part of their tour team and she worked with them at Manchester EC, also earning her the recognition as their first Scottish Ambassador.
There is never a dull moment in the Salon, which makes it stand out from the rest and more exciting for the girls: Mel sees to that! From organising ‘out-of-the-box’ fashion & hair shows, to her work appearing in a Cult Horror film (Netflix) there is no end to this journey. The beginning of 2017 saw our hairstyles and work being part of Beauty competitions (Scotland & Wales) then on national TV, with Mel worked with international model/presenter Amy Willerton, recently on Channel 4 (The Jump). Mel & her girls are always just one step away from jumping on a flight to help clients as their hair is ‘their crowning glory’. Eg. some of you regulars will know that Mel is just back from Italy, where she was working with a client, then had the opportunity to work on hair at an Italian Fashion Show.
If you haven’t sussed already, Mel is the ‘go-to’ girl when it comes to Hair Extensions, there are so many ‘bad Hair Extension’ experiences out there and you certainly can get what you pay for, and unfortunately that just doesn’t mean the price. When you come to Mel at Macs you get the best of the best extensions, you also get her experience, her passion and a ‘ticking off’ if you don’t look after them. In other words, it’s not just about taking your money and be allowed to walk out that door, never to return (although that is your choice), Mel takes you through step-by-step in looking after your hair extensions and getting the best out of them. Her insight and knowledge are valuable assets to the services she provides.
It’s 100% safe to say that she cares about your hair as much as you do! Isn’t that a win-win situation?
Sophie (Salon Manager/Artistic Director)
Sophie has been hairdressing since she was 15. Starting out in her mom’s salon in Stratford upon Avon, West Midlands, where she trained at the colour technician. We are sure Sophie was born with a tint brush and pin tail comb in her hands. Sophie has worked with many colour houses and has done lots of training with different colours – L’Oreal colour keys and expert, also Wella colour training. Sophie is working towards doing colour training with our colour house TIGI at present. Sophie has worked with a number of very talented hair stylist in Glasgow city centre, being taught Vidal Sassoon cutting technique and many different styling techniques
Sophie loves being creative and getting stuck in with colours. Whether is be a balayage or foils or turning a clients hair pink. She has so many ideas bursting to get out. Being a stylist and colour tech is Sophie’s life. You see her getting excited with anything she does. She is always eager to learn new techniques and methods. If shes not on the salon floor shes on her phone watching hair videos to make sure shes ahead of the game. She can get a wee bit like a stuck record, and her family have told us, all she talks about is hair. Doing this and doing that, to create this and that.
Sophie moved to Glasgow in 2009 and has never looked back. She might not be able to always understand you, but she will try. Sophie is very colourful and has a wide variety of tattoos. But don’t let that put you off her, shes a softy at heart. She is also a complete NERD. She will come out with star wars and harry potter quotes in the salon all the time.
Amy (senior stylist)
Amy started off her training at the age of 15 and qualified by 18 , then decided to retrain and learn some more advanced hairdressing then going on the floor at 19.
Amy trained in an Aveda salon in Glasgow’s west end and built up her loyal clientele over the 5 years that she was there, going self employed in the salon for the last two years.
Amy participated in many winning award shows with the salon also the Scottish Baftas, Photoshoots and Fashion shows.
Now she has joined the Macs team for a new and exciting path in my career, where she and we feel it more suits her personality and style.
Amy loves hairdressing, she have a real passion for creating new looks and creative colours, making her clients feel and look amazing and wanting more.
Sam took the BIG jump to go self employed this year and feel macs hair studio will be the perfect fit for my style of work. The girls are so welcoming, exited to join the team.
Little about Sam experience have been hairdressing for 6 years. Before moving to Glasgow in 2016 Sam worked for multi award winning ego hair design in Inverness. When first moving to Glasgow she worked at Regis as there creative director. I love getting creative with colour and hair ups wedding hair.
Looking forward to bouncing of the girls creative vibes to make some exiting things happen at Macs hair studio.
Skye started hairdressing at a young age, whilst still at school. On leaving school she went on to do social care at college falling away from hairdressing. Regretting the decision at 16, Skye went on to do a fast 6 week course on hairdressing to get back into the industry. Skye came to work at Macs in March 2016 and she immediately became a part of our lovely team as the junior. Soon after she started with us we enrolled Skye on an apprenticeship with City of Glasgow College, which we are happy to say she has now completed her first year with flying colours (no pun intended). If you have long flowing locks, make sure you book in with Skye, her client list is growing as she becomes a firm favourite for her beautiful bouncy blow dries!
